New Life Church of Christ (Holiness) USA - Family Focus Network - 2009-10 Summary
As outlined in our original proposal, the United Christian Women’s Ministry of New Life Church of Christ (Holiness) USA, designed a program to aid in building families through the Family Focus Network Initiative. This initiative is designed to provide support and training for parents and youth in promoting stable home environments. We intend to build upon the work performed by Minister Lindsay and establish a network of trained counselors and facilitators who will be utilized to meet the challenges faced by urban families.
The Family Focus Network will develop families through three main initiatives: Family Support, Parenting Skills, and Youth Empowerment.
I. The Family Support Network has provided a series of support group sessions for families with a certified Christian family counselor. The sessions were geared to promote dialogue between families about everyday issues and concerns. As noted, we held 3 such group sessions. Four families have been counseled privately through the network and currently two new families have been scheduled. The stipend received through this grant allowed for the support of one family. The now single mother was threatening suicide and divorce. Through the network she received necessary support for this difficult transition in her life. All resources have been utilized to make sure that this branch of the network continues.
II. Due to funding constraints the Parenting Skills Network has been informally addressed through the UCWM band through rap sessions and one on one support initiatives with unwed mothers, new mothers and struggling mothers. The needs are being addressed each month in the monthly meetings.
III. The Youth Empowerment Network is providing self esteem training for girls and boys through workshops, videos, fieldtrips and mentoring opportunities. The UCWM has partnered with the local HYM to develop programs and activities. The Daughters of Esther and Sons of Solomon meet monthly through the local HYM. These sessions have proven to be effective. Two youth with a history of defiant and disruptive behavior received recognition for improved behavior this school term. The challenges in this area are still great, but we are endeavoring to forge ahead to meet the needs of the youth in our church and community.
We would like to thank the National UCWM for your continued support of this mission activity. We have seen God work in a miraculous manner, but we are asking for your continued prayers and support. Satan does not want this ministry to continue, but we know no weapons formed against the works of God shall prosper.
