INFO ON GRANT+SYNOPSIS ON 2008 GRANT WINNERS

Following is a brief synopsis of 2008 grant winners:
First Church of Christ Holiness, Norfolk, Va.: They are educating young girls in the importance of waiting for marriage, using the book, ‘Love Waits’. Money used to buy additional materials. They conduct an ongoing mentoring program to help break the generation gap with youth.. Pay for piano lessons for two girls. They listed several other ideas also.

2008 Midyear Family Ministry Report (con’t)
Christ Temple, Conway, Ark.: Funds assisted the Dghtrs of Esther by sponsoring workshops and outings geared toward issues faced by today’s teen girls. Money will purchase reading and studying
materials and supplies for groups and a teen girl retreat. UCWM group will use money to purchase arts and crafts materials. The group has an arts & crafts ministry which they work together on and hand out the crafts to the shut-ins, elderly and others in the community.
New Salem, Marrero, La. (small suburb of New Orleans), Money would help support an ongoing daily community prayer line calls. Professionals distribute health information via “Medical Moments’ to promote good health. Money helps support marriage ministry to church and community, which reassures couples as the Word of God is shared along with wholesome fun. They provide transportation & other short term services in the community.
As you see, the churches represented are all doing different services that could be started at your church. You may be doing some of these things already. It is my hope that you will be motivated to share some of these ideas with UCWM members in your diocese.
A reminder: It is imperative that all applications be completed per the application instructions. Diocese presidents can give me the grants at the Nat’l Bd. Mtg. which is the deadline.
The committee regrets not being able to consider applications because of this. However, we are striving for excellence and want to be fair to those applicants who do follow instructions.
I have asked the Brotherhood to consider taking on the mentoring and teaching young men to be men project which is still desperately needed. We can still encourage our men to do this at our local churches

THESE ARE MY SUGGESTIONS. COMMENTS ARE WELCOME
All bands in your diocese may enter. If they submitted before and didn’t win, they may enter the grant again. I believe there was only one or two that we did not consider. There were 18 grants submitted, so they may have had a great idea, but didn’t write or express them well. The grant content could be tweaked.
All grants should be completed and signed and turned in to the Diocese President at the Diocese Convention. She should check it over for any errors or omissions. She can give it to me before or at the Executive Board Meeting at the National.

I would like the grants to be written as follows: If you think this is more concise and would be easier to score, let me know by email. If you want to change anything, let me know. I am always open to suggestions. I want to change the format of the essay so that it will be easier to score. I plan to present this at the National, but your dioceses will be ahead if you present this format (after you critique it) at your workshops.
